House flippers have a habit of hurrying up and cutting corners to sell a property. Unfortunately, one of the things they cut corners on is the flooring. In homes where this has happened, you may notice the exact same carpet or flooring throughout the entire house, as though the flippers got a bulk discount on carpeting in a particular color and ran with it. When you are ready to change up the flooring in your home, don’t make the same mistake.
Every room and every hallway should have its own flooring to visually split up the spaces in your home. Using all one kind of flooring and/or one color or pattern makes the entire house run together in a blur. Put carpeting in a bedroom, snap-lock vinyl in a high traffic hallway, and wood in the living room. There are other ways you can do this using different types of flooring options.
If you love high-pile carpet, consider changing the color in each space. Maybe your bedrooms are different colors and you want the carpet to match or accent the floor. Maybe you want Berber near the front door and high pile everywhere else. Likewise with wood floors. Don’t go with a cherry or pine floor throughout the entire house. It will be difficult to maintain and be rather dull to look at. Change it up with dark walnut, warm cherry, subtle maple, etc.
Tile works well for bathrooms because it is waterproof. However, you could use waterproof click-lock vinyl planks. Just make sure your bathroom flooring choice isn’t slippery when wet. It should have a slightly rough texture to prevent slips and falls when there is water on the floor. Stone tile works in a dining room, but not so well in the kitchen due to possible falls.
